5 Mistakes I Made Starting  My Business(What I Learned)

By Usama Khan Jul 10, 2025

Mistake 1: Mutual Goal

I confidently pursued my goal but overlooked something vital — building a

core team with a shared vision.

I added people to my startup without fully understanding their mindset or goals.

They wanted to build something, but not necessarily the same thingI envisioned. Everyone had different priorities, schedules, and tasks.

I built a team, but not a unified mission, and that cost us progress and trust.

Mistake 2: Mind Dependency

Never enter a field you’re not skilled in — it can damage your company’s reputation.

Worse, it can also affect the credibility of the fields you are strong.

Choose the field where you truly excel and make it your company’s core offering.

While partners may bring different expertise, always test and validate their skills before

depending on them.

Staying in your strength zone protects your brand and sets you up for long-term success.

Mistake 3: Assistance

Don’t rely entirely on others’ thinking or assistance. Their vision might not align

with yours.

Be wise when accepting input, but always make the final decision yourself.

The journey may be tough, and people around you might doubt you, but never let

that break your momentum. Your dreams are your responsibility.

Mistake 4: Betraying

I lost focus on my values by trusting others blindly, without truly understanding

their intentions. Some used my company’s name to attract clients and redirected

them for personal gain.

They may believe that betrayal will fast-track their career, but no real success is

built on disloyalty.

Trust is earned, not given.

Mistake 5: Miscommunication

I underestimated how important communication is. I was the only common link

in the team — everyone else was a stranger to each other.

Without structured communication, we were working randomly. No one knew what

tasks had been assigned or what progress was expected.

This misalignment broke the team.

The lesson? Always schedule weekly meetings, define clear roles, and work with strict timelines and sprints.
